MetroMix: Dining Issue

Just finished a commission for the Indianapolis Star's weekly magazine Metromix, for their annual Dining issue. A parody of DaVinci's Last Supper, our main character is requesting his last meal from a group of Indy's finest Chefs. Final dimensions are 21.5 x 9.625. Here are photos of the whole process from start to finish:

Reference photos of the local chefs and DaVinci's original used to create the rough sketch in blue pencil:

The rough sketch gets more detailed at full size, blue pencil on gray Rives BFK.

The blue pencil is detailed out with graphite and white charcoal:

After adding another face, the drawing is scanned in to my computer, touched up, and colors shifted for the final:

The added face is changed (3rd from left), then the coloring is done digitally in Photoshop. The background, midground, and foreground layers are manipulated separately to boost the saturation of the food and the center character, making the final image for print... Voila!
